To complete your college application you will need to know: what qualifications you already have and what grades you got; what qualifications you are sitting this year and what grades you are expected to get; your SQA Number. You will also need to have a personal email account and to have written a personal statement.
Borders College Personal Statement must be between 250 and 500 words, and that it must include the following details:
Simple Plan Introduction: Keep it brief - I really want to do this course because… Main paragraphs: Explain why you want to do this course, and what makes you the ideal candidate for it, making sure you include all of the details above. Conclusion: Briefly re-write your opening point about why you want to do the course so much – try to use different words though!
Here are some things to think about when you are writing your personal statement. Why do you want to do this course? Show that you approach your work with commitment and motivation Demonstrate clear understanding of subject Extra curricular activities that you enjoy (relate to application) Current studies and how they relate to application Work experience – what did you gain from it? – what skills did you gain? Avoid using lists – this is basically a personal essay Show that you are an all round achiever – demonstrate that you are capable of responsibility, teamwork, communication skills Show how all your achievements will contribute to your chosen subject of study
